Verse for today – “I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints (Eph. 1:18).”
I am certain I do not understand everything God is communicating in this verse! Do you recall, in verse 11, when we talked about the Christian’s inheritance? Now, in verse 18, Paul prays for us to understand Christ’s inheritance!
The Bible says that Christ’s inheritance is beautiful to Him just as our inheritance is beautiful to us. Remember, Jesus is part of our inheritance. But did you know that we are also a part of Christ’s reward? In Psalms, God the Father says to the Son, “Ask of Me, and I will surely give the nations as Your inheritance, and the very ends of the earth as Your possession (Ps. 2:8).” Isaiah 53 says of the suffering servant, “… as a result of the anguish of His soul, He will see it and be satisfied (Is. 53:11).” AND Hebrews says, “Jesus… who for the joy set before Him endured the cross… (Heb. 12:2).” I believe that you, dear Christian, were the joy set before Jesus as He went to the cross. You are the one with whom He is satisfied. And you, as a part of the nations, are His inheritance. So, HE is our reward and we are HIS! I have so much to learn and understand about God’s love and His rewards! They are amazing to me. They are deep and beautiful. They are not for any one person alone: but for every genuine follower of Christ. Today I feel the need to simply agree with Paul as he prays: “Dear Father, open the eyes of our hearts!”
